after thes’hell, i was asked to write a few songs for a soundtrack based on the horror comic book, T-Horror (tncomedy.net). i tried to be a bit more restrained with these songs (not a lot of leads, not overly long, or any of my other usual self-indulgent bullshit). the release came and went, and i kept tinkering with the two songs, knowing full well i would eventually release them as a proper ænorex single. i tried a few different things, even spending about a dozen or so hours cutting samples into them for the single release. eventually, i decided they were solid-enough songs without the samples, cut all of that crap out and just cleaned up some parts and reworked some drums. sometimes less really is more, i guess.
for the first ænorex release of 2021, i found myself chasing a lot of melody and since i don’t care to restrict myself to fit into any one box, i just followed that road to see where it went. in my opinion, it ended up being just the right amount of pretty and scary, like the e.p’s namesake. certainly not for everyone, but i’m pleased with it and hopefully it finds some kind of audience, however small.
